I finished a rough draft of my first poster. I chose the colors to match the butterfly from Mending Kids. Although there are some things I want to fine tune, such as the font, I am pleased with the overall look and layout. I will use this as a template for the other three posters, and then I will create and fifth poster to tie them all together. Once I have the other three posters done, I will fine tune all four. I am hoping I will still have time to create the brochure, but I really want to get the four posters completed and where I want them first. I will continue to watch the tutorials and hopefully will keep getting tips on making this project how I want it.
My goal for next week is, now that I have a template, to create at least two of the other four posters.

Week 6--Project Iteration #1
I found my 4 photographs I want to use for my posters. I found them to be compelling and give a nice cross-section of cultures and appearances of the children. This week, my goal is to work on mastering the use of layers in Adobe InDesign. I want to choose one photograph, add the slogan, color and butterfly effect.
I am completely behind again this week. I had to work 56 hours at work this week and my youngest son has been even more of a handful than usual. But, I will absolutely have this done by Sunday.

Project Log--Week 5
I am feeling better this week after I FINALLY started watching some of the Adobe InDesign tutorials. I wish I knew enough to just bust in to what I want to do. I think I would like to create the brochure and then make a series of 5 posters or flyers for Mending Kids. My idea is this: They have a logo that contains four different colors of butterflies. So, what if I have four different posters that each emphasize something different about their mission and accomplishments... For example, number 1, is a child saved by a medical mission heart surgery; number 2, a child whose life has been changed by craniofacial surgery; number 3, might focus on statistics for statistics about access to surgery for children in developing countries targeted by MKI; number 4 focuses on a child brought to the US and had their life changed. Each poster has a different color of butterfly from the logo. Finally the fifth poster has the logo with all four butterflies. The "teaser" posters would have one butterfly and say, "Mend a Child. Change a Life." with the website address below. The fifth poster would bring them all together and finally say, Mending Kids International, Inc. So.......... anyway, that's the plan. I might even go completely away from the brochure for right now and just concentrate on the series of posters, then come back to the brochure. I still want to modernize the logo, though.

Week Four: Lydia.com Tutorial
So, to be perfectly honest, I'm a little behind. I was going to list off my excuses, but to be quite truthful, I'm very tired and I just don't have time. The good news is: I know what I want to do. I want to use the marketing materials provided to me by Mending Kids International, work on updating the logo, updating the design of the business cards and brochure and design a series of flyers using the new logo. The bad news: I need to get hopping on jumping on Lydia.com this week! Next week, I have to start working 50 hours a week for the next 3 to 4 weeks. This is definitely not the time to procrastinate! My goal this week is to watch an introductory lesson and start with the redesign of the brochure.
